The Arturo Falaschi ICGEB Fellowships programme offers long and short-term fellowships to assist in the training of scientists from Member States through the following actions:
ICGEB offers postgraduate studies with the aim of obtaining the “Doctor Philosophiae” (PhD) degree in the life sciences that can be awarded by a number of Academic Institutions of International standing.
ICGEB Trieste is an authorized Affiliated Research Centre of The Open University (UK) to support research degrees under arrangements approved by the Open University’s research Committee.
The Open University is the awarding body for research degrees at ICGEB Trieste. In addition, it has an agreement with the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia).
The awarding body for research at ICGEB New Delhi is Jawaharlal Nehru University (India) and at ICGEB Cape Town, it is University of Cape Town (South Africa).
The structure of the three-year PhD course includes intensive laboratory research activities, participation in seminars and communication training during Journal Club sessions, symposia and international meetings.

Sandwich PhD fellowships are open to students carrying out a PhD project in their own country that falls within the research fields of an ICGEB Group. Both supervisor and student should negotiate a research project with a suitable ICGEB Group leader, to provide the basis for the application that must also include a detailed schedule of foreseen activities to be carried out at both the home institute and in the host laboratory.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The Arturo Falaschi ICGEB Fellowships Programme is open to nationals of ICGEB Member States only. Applicants should directly contact the Group Leader of the laboratory whose research field is closer to the personal interest in order to verify and obtain a written confirmation of space availability and eventually define a specific project that will form an integral part of the fellowship application.
SUBMISSION
Complete applications must be submitted to the ICGEB Liaison Officer of the applicant’s country of origin for endorsement. Endorsement is an essential prerequisite for acceptance of the application. Only endorsed applications will be transmitted to ICGEB for review and final selection.
DEADLINE
Endorsed applications must arrive at ICGEB Trieste on or before 30 April, each year.
There is no submission deadline for endorsed application for a Flexible fellowship.
Calls for applications are launched yearly. For further information on eligibility criteria, terms and conditions of support, modalities for the submission of an application please refer to the application form.

2. Postdoctoral fellowships
Scientists may apply for a postdoctoral fellowship to be carried out at one of the Components. Successful candidates may be eligible for follow-up funding for their research upon their return to the home institute through the Return Grant Programme.Research activities are held in English and may be undertaken at the ICGEB laboratories located in Trieste and Monterotondo (Italy), New Delhi (India) and Cape Town (South Africa).
3. Flexible fellowships
