Description of the Scheme and Eligibility
The University of Roehampton and the Society of the Sacred Heart have established a scholarship fund to encourage postgraduate studies and research in areas which promote international understanding and which enable candidates to work more effectively in their communities upon completion of their studies.

The scholarships are available to academically excellent students from both within and outside the UK to follow a programme of study at the University of Roehampton.
Candidates in any discipline are encouraged to apply.
The Scholarship will usually consist of the tuition fee and free or subsidised accommodation on the University of Roehampton campus.

General conditions
The main criterion for the award is academic excellence. However, excellence in other areas of the candidate’s past work or volunteer experience may also be considered. The awarding Panel will also take financial need or other compelling circumstances into account.

Scholarships for taught masters and taught doctorate programmes will be for the duration of the course, while MPhil and PhD scholarships will be for a maximum of 3 years for full-time students or 5 years for part-time students.
Scholarships are awarded subject to acceptance for admission to a programme of study or research at Roehampton University and the requirements of any regulations that pertain to this.

Eligibility criteria
Students for postgraduate study or research from within and outside the UK who:

- are intending to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Roehampton
- have an excellent academic record or equivalent life experience
- have a commitment to contributing to the wider community
- may otherwise be unable to pursue their studies
- are likely to make a contribution to international understanding and intend to contribute to their own communities following graduation

The scholarship panel meets once a year works to the below timetable:

Applications, which will be acknowledged by email, both electronic or in hard copy and must be received by 5pm on the application deadline date.
Applications for the scholarship should include a statement indicating why the candidate wishes to pursue their studies at Roehampton, and indicating how the candidate intends to promote international understanding and contribute to their communities following graduation. Applicants must also send the names and contact details of two referees and proof of eligibility. This should include:
- reference to their acceptance (conditional or unconditional) by the University of Roehampton to pursue graduate studies
- any other information that the candidate feels is relevant to their application.
Awards will be made by the University of Roehampton Sacred Heart Scholarship Panel. The Panel will comprise of the Registrar and University Secretary who shall chair the panel, the University of Roehampton Professor of Catholic Studies, the Head of Digby Stuart College, a representative of the Director of Finance and a representative of the Director of Recruitment and International Development.
The Panel reserves the right to seek any additional information relevant to the application and a written letter of support will normally be sought from an academic member of staff in the department of study.

All decisions are final and no correspondence other than that initiated by the Panel will be entered into.

Scholarships are for the duration of the course as described above, but are subject to compliance with the University Code of Conduct and a successful annual report on the student’s work during the year submitted by their academic supervisor or equivalent. The University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship if these conditions are not met. Successful applicants will be expected to participate in promotional activity. We reserve the right to use the names, photographs and recordings of them on the website and in any other publicity. Any personal information we hold will be used in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
